A CHARITY offering surf sessions to people with disabilities or additional needs has received a cash boost.
Inclusive Surfing Scotland runs sessions at Belhaven Bay and Pease Bay, as well as at St Andrews, where there are thriving surf communities.
About one in five people in Scotland define themselves as having a disability and Inclusive Surfing Scotland, which was set up last year, caters to those with hearing and sight impairments, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), limb loss, wheelchair users, and people with cerebral palsy.
Community Windpower (CWL), through BeGreen Dunbar, has provided a grant of £1,000 which has gone towards the cost of a Mobi-Chair, a floating beach wheelchair that can move easily across sand and water.
Anouska Woods, community co-ordinator at BeGreen Dunbar, said: “We are so pleased to be able to help this amazing new charity to reach their funding goals, and we are incredibly excited to see how the sessions go.
“The thriving surfing community will now be within reach of so many more individuals, which is a wonderful thing.”
