THE Easter Bunny helped deliver nearly 1,700 Easter eggs to hospitals, care homes and support groups across the county this Easter.
Organised by Lee Rollo Stewart, Tranent Co-operative Funeralcare director, the annual initiative collects chocolate egg donations from the public which are later delivered to those in need, and to the professionals who help them, to brighten up their Easter.
This year, Lee told the Courier that she was “blown away” by the response from the public.
She said: “It was another fantastic year with about 1,700 eggs given out.
“What a great effort from the public – I’m really blown away with the support.
“It brings so much joy to see the looks on the faces of the elderly in the care homes, the kids with special needs, and the hard-working care staff when you drop off the eggs.
“It’s all about spreading a little bit of joy and doing a bit of good in the community.
“I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who donated. I know times are tough and eggs are not getting any cheaper! Any donations were so gratefully received and it was a joy to visit everyone.”
Among the places visited by the Easter Bunny were East Lothian Community Hospital, Muirfield Care Home, Tranent Day Care Centre, The Hub at Sanderson’s Wynd, and the nursery at Macmerry Primary School.
