A WORK of art from celebrated artist John Bellany has sold for more than £30,000.
The Players, an important early painting from the internationally acclaimed county artist, sold for £30,000 in Glasgow at the end of last month.
The work by the Port Seton artist, who died in 2013 at the age of 71, headlined The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction.
The Players, which sold for £30,000, plus additional fees, is considered a pivotal piece in Bellany’s oeuvre.
Completed in 1967, the painting was created during a period where the artist was producing some of his most memorable works as he embraced the cultural delights of London during his time at the Royal College of Art.

Measuring an impressive 1.83 metres by 1.61 metres, the work offers an insight into Bellany’s life-long love of music, with the large oil on board featuring the artist himself as he plays alongside a long-haired musical companion.
The Players was one of five pieces of Bellany art to go under the hammer.
An untitled piece sold for £1,800, The Morning Tipple sold for £1,600 and North Berwick Woman was purchased for £1,300.
Finally, a second untitled piece sold for £190.
