PERSISTENT rain has led to the closure of two sections of busy roads in East Lothian.
A yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall and potential flooding was issued by the Met Office yesterday (Monday).
The warning is to remain in place until 6pm tonight (Tuesday) and East Lothian Council have taken steps to try to address the issue.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “A Met Office yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall and potential flooding remains in place for the remainder of today and into this evening.
“River levels are high and some areas are affected by surface water.
“Our teams are monitoring impacts and carrying out works as required.
“The A199 is closed between Abbotsview roundabout and the bridge over the A1 at Amisfield and the B1377 is closed between Longniddry Railway Station roundabout and the Ballencrieff roundabout due to surface water and run-off from fields.
“Drivers should avoid those areas.”
The eastbound off-slip at the Abbotsview junction on the A1 has also been closed.
The council spokesperson also stressed there could be further issues later today.
They said: “High tide today is also expected to be larger than that predicted yesterday.
“Please continue to follow Met Office and SEPA advice and be especially vigilant in coastal areas to keep you and others safe.”
Monitoring of the coast around high tide and around Port Seton and Musselburgh will continue to take place.
