FLOOD barriers are to be placed to the west of Goosegreen Bridge on New Street, Musselburgh, today (Monday) as a precautionary measure against coastal flooding.
Teams from East Lothian Council will also have teams monitoring the impacts on Links Road, Port Seton, and throughout East Lothian.
The council said via social media: "A combination of high tides and wind direction over the coming days means there is increased risk of coastal flooding, spray and overtopping of waves.
"A yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall is also in place for Tuesday, meaning surface flooding may also occur in other areas, particularly as ground remains saturated from the recent prolonged period of wet weather.
"Following forecasts of predicted high tides from today until Thursday, flood barriers will be placed today to the west of Goosegreen Bridge on New Street, Musselburgh, as a precautionary measure. We’ll also have teams monitoring the impacts on Links Road, Port Seton, and throughout East Lothian."
People are advised to:
- Take care on the coast by being aware of high tides and large waves. Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard;
- Don’t enter the sea in stormy conditions to keep yourself and others safe;
- If walking in woodland areas, be aware of damage to trees affected by high winds and avoid the area in stormy weather;
- Allow plenty of time for any journeys and drive to the road conditions.
