PLANNING permission has been granted for a flat in a building’s basement.
The bottom floor of the building on Dunbar’s High Street is currently being used for garden storage.
Kate Darrah has received planning permission from East Lothian Council to create a one-bedroom property.
No members of the public objected to the proposals, with drawings showing a kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom on the floorplan.
The planning officer’s report described the plans as “a sustainable reuse of an existing resource”.
They noted: “The reuse of this building is a sustainable approach to regeneration which will deliver an additional residential unit with a minimal use of new resources.
“The applicant has introduced measures to make the property more energy efficient, including the introduction of timber double glazing and the upgrading of the floor composition.
“The site is in itself located within the town centre and is well served by public transport and most amenities are within a 10-minute walk distance.”
