A PLAY area designed by local schoolchildren has opened in time for the Easter holidays.

Youngsters at Dirleton Primary School, Gullane Primary School and North Berwick’s Law Primary School were all involved in coming up with an impressive play area at Yellowcraig.

The play area, which reopened on Tuesday, was designed to be suitable for toddlers through to teenagers and replaces an existing space.

Councillor Colin McGinn, the cabinet member for community wellbeing, welcomed the opening of the new play area.

Improvements were funded through a combination of East Lothian Council capital funding and Scottish Government funding for Play Parks renewal.

Mr McGinn added: “The play area at Yellowcraig has been a popular attraction for residents and visitors over the years and it’s great that the new play area has opened in time for the Easter holidays.

“The council has invested in play areas across the county and in recent years has installed new equipment in Musselburgh, Pencaitland and Aberlady with further installations shortly in Tranent and Dunbar.

“The new play area is not just appealing for a range of ages but also includes equipment accessible for young people with mobility issues including wheelchair users.

“The installation work was undertaken by amenity services play squad and I would like to thank them for completing the work earlier than scheduled and working through some miserable weather conditions to do so!”
