FESTIVE fun and seasonal cheer is on offer at The Brunton’s venues in Musselburgh and Haddington.
The classic Royal Opera House ballet The Nutcracker comes to the big screen at Loretto School Theatre in Musselburgh on Tuesday at 7.15pm.
The audience is invited to join Clara at a Christmas Eve party that becomes a magical adventure once everyone else is tucked up in bed. They can “marvel at the brilliance” of Tchaikovsky’s score, as Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker fight the Mouse King and visit the Sugar Plum Fairy in the glittering Kingdom of Sweets.
Peter Wright’s production for The Royal Ballet, with period designs by Julia Trevelyan Oman, is said to keep true to the spirit of this festive ballet classic, combining “the thrill of the fairy tale with spectacular dancing”.
Also on screen at Loretto School Theatre next Thursday (December 14) at 7pm is A Christmas Carol. Based on Charles Dickens’ own performance adaptation, Simon Callow, star of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare in Love, and director Tom Cairns have created a one-man theatrical extravaganza of festive storytelling.
Tickets are selling fast for pantomime fun in Cinderella from Hopstoch Theatre and Brunton Theatre Trust, which runs from December 20 to 30 at Loretto School Theatre.
Buddy Holly & The Cricketers herald in the yuletide festivities with Holly at Christmas at the Corn Exchange in Haddington today (Thursday) at 7.30pm. Holly’s hits and other contemporary classics are played in a “fast, furious and funny feast of entertainment”.
