Longniddry Primary School has said goodbye – once again – to its 2023 ‘leavers’.
The P7s who left the school in the summer to join Preston Lodge High School made a highly unusual return to their old primary school for some of their lessons.
This was necessary due to the closure of 23 classrooms at Preston Lodge due to the discovery of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in the high school’s roof.
Cockenzie, Longniddry, Preston Tower and St Gabriel’s RC Primary Schools also welcomed back their former pupils for the same reason, with some students also hosted at the Pennypit Centre.
These pupils made their return to Preston Lodge full-time last week, with the youngsters saying farewell to their primary schools for a second time.
Staff and pupils gathered outside Longniddry Primary School, where the S1s – or P8s as some had called them! – were given a round of applause as they left.
Sheona Skinner, headteacher at Longniddry Primary School, said: “We were delighted to pipe out S1s on their full-time return to Preston Lodge High School.
“The pupils showed resilience in adapting to the new plans but are now ready to enjoy the full benefits of being back at PLHS.
“We wish them all the best for the remainder of their S1 year.”
