A TRANENT man who behaved aggressively after turning up at his neighbour’s door has been told to stay out of trouble for the next 12 months.

Brandon Gay, 22, arrived at his neighbour’s property and repeatedly struck out at the front door on September 27 last year.

Gay also assaulted a man by grabbing him in a headlock and punching him to the body during the same incident.

Gay denied the allegations but was found guilty following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in October.

Prior to the trial, Gay, of Somers Park, had pleaded guilty to further charges of attempting to contact two witnesses on October 18 after he had been told not to following a court appearance on October 3.

He also admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and repeatedly shouting and swearing on the same date.

Sentence had been deferred for reports to be prepared and he returned to the dock for sentencing last Tuesday.

Sheriff John Cook decided not to impose a formal non-harassment order as he said that Gay’s bail conditions already prohibited him from contacting the complainers.

The sheriff said that he was willing to defer sentence further to December next year for Gay to prove he could be of good behaviour.
