Tranent and Dunbar United both crashed out of the Scottish Cup after narrow defeats to Forfar Athletic and Alloa Athletic respectively.
Tranent 0 Forfar Athletic 1
Home side Tranent were optimistic about their chances of progression, despite being up against a side higher in the football pyramid.
League Two Forfar had not enjoyed the best of starts to their league campaign, with just two wins from 13.
In a tight first half, Cammy Ross came close for the hosts on several occasion. His later strike on 43 minutes was just narrowly tipped over the bar.
There were some shouts for a Tranent penalty on the hour mark, but the referee waved play on.
Seven minutes later, Forfar took the lead when Matty Allan struck from a set play to silence the home crowd.
Tranent brought on Lennon Walker, Alassan Jones and Aiden Walsh for the final 15 minutes.
Alassan made an instant impact, knocking the ball on for Ross in the box, but his effort was tipped behind for a corner.
Tranent kept pushing, but were unable to find an equaliser.
It was a disappointing afternoon for the Lowland League side who enjoyed more of the ball and more clear cut chances.
Dunbar United 1 Alloa Athletic 2
Elsewhere, Dunbar United knew they faced a tough challenge at home to League One Alloa.
The visitors sit mid table in League One but were heading into the game off the back of a 3-0 defeat to FC Edinburgh.
Dunbar shocked their opponents on 12 minutes when Michael Barfoot scored from a freekick to give them the lead.
Alloa responded well though, with Kevin Cawley grabbing the equaliser on the half hour mark.
The game looked set to be level at half time, but Alloa managed to grab a late goal to lead the game.
Former Hearts and Kilmarnock forward Conor Sammon with the goal on 46 minutes.
Alloa continued their dominance in the second half with Alistair Roy going close on multiple occasions.
Dunbar brought on Ben Bathgate, Sean Stewart and Dylan Tait on to try and grab an equaliser.
James Redpath’s 68th minute freekick was too high for the hosts as it blazed over the bar.
There were a few late chances for the hosts as Stewart and Grant Thomson both went close.
Sean Dowie claim closest to an equaliser in added time, but his close range header somehow went over and Alloa secured the win.
Dunbar will be frustrated with the result, but they can be proud of a good performance against a side three divisions higher than them.
Both sides are back in action next week as Tranent host Sauchie Juniors on Tuesday in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup before hosting East Stirlingshire in the Lowland League next Saturday.
Dunbar visit Kinnoull in the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division next Saturday.
