PEOPLE in Dunbar will be given a first look at plans for a new social hub on the edge of their town, including a skatepark, climbing wall and bowling alley, at an exhibition next month.
Community and youth organisation thespaceScotland has been planning to open a new facility in the town several years after closing its North Berwick facility.
Last week, it announced plans for a public exhibition of the proposals in Dunbar’s Hallhill Sports Centre on December 12.
A pre-application notice (PAN) lodged with East Lothian Council sets out plans for the new hub to include the skatepark, a 10-pin bowling alley, cafe, retail space, a performing and rehearsal space, and workshops.
The notice from thespaceScotland CIC identifies the land behind the town’s DunBear statue between Newtonlees and Broxburn for the centre.

On its website, thespaceScotland says it has been working in partnership with the landowner to “design, build and run thespace Dunbar on our site at DunBear Point”.
It says: “We aim to empower change from within, creating local solutions to local challenges and opportunities, working hard to promote and motivate ‘Youth in Community’.
“Young people may be a distinct and diverse group but we challenge the idea of young people as a separate community. ”
People will be able to go along to the exhibition to get a first glimpse of the plans at the sports centre on December 12 between 2pm and 8pm.
A second exhibition is planned for the centre again in April next year.
