A COASTAL road which was closed following the appearance of a giant sinkhole could be open again by this weekend.
Dunbar’s Lamer Street, which runs alongside the town’s East Beach, was closed after part of the road collapsed following storms last weekend.
Repair works are being carried out on the street, with hopes that it could be open within a matter of days.
A spokesperson for East Lothian Council told the Courier: “The wall has now been secured and separately works finished by SG Networks on the exposed gas pipe.
“Infill work will continue followed by resurfacing and all hoped to be completed by end of the week.
“The road is still closed off obviously.”

The seawall dates back to Victorian Times.
High tides and poor weather conditions caused two stones at the base of the wall to be pulled out.
That resulted in the sea rushing through the gap and washing out the Victorian infill.
Pippa Swan, chairwoman of Dunbar’s community council, had described the sinkhole as being “the size of a delivery van”.
She told the Courier on Monday that repair work was still ongoing on the site.
She said: “It can start with a tiny hole just a few centimetres across or a joint between two stones.
“That is enough to begin to loosen the sand – it is basically built on sand.”
