AN INVESTIGATION has been launched following the sudden death of a 15-year-old girl.
Police were called to North Berwick Law yesterday evening and confirmed that the death of a North Berwick High School pupil was being treated as “unexplained”.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 6.15pm on Monday, October 23, police were called to North Berwick Law area following the sudden death of a 15-year-old girl.
“The death is being treated as unexplained but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The main entry point to the Law, a popular location with walkers and dog walkers, was cordoned off by police, close to the beauty spot’s car park near Law Primary School.
The police cordon was lifted late morning today and the public could again access the Law.
A spokesperson for East Lothian Council confirmed that guidance and pupil support staff at the town's secondary school would be on hand to offer support.
They said: “North Berwick High School received sad news of the unexpected passing of an S4 pupil last night.
"The school community’s thoughts are with their family at this most difficult of times.
“Guidance and pupil support staff are on hand in school to offer additional support to any young person who needs it.”
