A children’s cancer charity set up in memory of a young footballer is sponsoring Musselburgh Windsor Ladies FC.

Jordan Houston, who played for Musselburgh Windsor, died in 2011 at the age of 11 after a battle with a rare brain tumour known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, which had been diagnosed the previous year.

Jordan’s mum Chloe and stepdad, Chris Napier, of the town’s Delta Drive, set up the Jordan Houston Trust (JHT) in 2012 to help children with cancer in Jordan’s memory.

They were approached by Jordan’s classmate and friend Erin Archibald, a striker for Musselburgh Windsor Ladies FC, with the idea of JHT sponsoring the team.

Erin, 24, attended Loretto RC Primary School with Jordan, who was a defender for Musselburgh Windsor. She now lives in Prestonpans.

Chloe said: “I know Jordan would not only be proud to help his friend but also to have his name on a Musselburgh Windsor strip again.

“The team have been in touch to let me know they will be holding a fundraiser on December 9 at the Wiremill to raise money for the team and also Jordan Houston Trust, which is a lovely touch.”

Erin said: “Myself and Musselburgh Windsor Ladies are proud to wear the Jordan Houston Trust logo on our away strips on a two-year sponsorship.

“Hopefully raising funds and awareness in several ways, including a charity fundraiser in December.

“This means a lot to me personally as Jordan and I went to primary school together and both played for the Loretto Primary School football team.

“Outwith school, we both played for Musselburgh Windsor boys from a young age – being the only girl in the team then, Jordan always looked out for me.

“A true friend who will always have a special place in my heart.”
