OPENING hours at two village libraries are being altered as part of cost cutting measures by East Lothian Council.
Changes will come into force at both East Linton and Longniddry's libraries from next week.
In East Linton, the library's opening hours on Fridays will change to 9am to 1pm and 2-4pm from October 20.
Meanwhile, in Longniddry, the library will not be open on Mondays after next week.
East Lothian Council has described both measures as "temporary" and the decision will be reviewed at the end of the financial year (March 2024).
The local authority has previously highlighted the difficult position it finds itself in with having to save millions of pounds over the coming years.
East Linton Library will temporarily change opening hours on Fridays to 9am-1pm & 2-4pm from 20th October in accordance with the current Council recruitment freeze and need for financial savings. Earlier this month, a decision was taken for Macmerry Recycling Centre to "temporarily" shut its doors.
A recruitment freeze is also in place.
They said: “Longniddry Library will temporarily close on Mondays from Monday, October 16, in accordance with the current Council recruitment freeze and need for financial savings.
“We will revisit this decision on March 31, 2024.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
