Incidents of anti-social behaviour in North Berwick High Street have been highlighted after a baby "got hit in the face by a sausage roll".

The issue was raised at North Berwick Community Council's October meeting in which members were made aware of ongoing problems caused by school-age children.

Incidents were said to be occurring at lunch times, centring on the High Street outside the town's Co-op and chip shop where children are meeting during their breaks.

Judy Lockhart-Hunter, vice chair of the group, pointed out that she had been made aware of the incidents by mothers in the town.

When relaying their stories to her, she said: "[One mum said that] One baby got hit in the face by a sausage roll."

East Lothian Council confirmed it was aware of the reports and will "take appropriate action" to resolve the behaviour.

It also confirmed the sausage roll incident had been dealt with internally.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “This does not reflect the vast majority of North Berwick’s pupils who behave responsibly.

"It’s sad that they, and the wider community, are affected by the consequences of inappropriate behaviour from a minority.

"The school regularly reminds all young people of its expectations for them and will take appropriate action against individuals when they are identified.

“The community council is welcome to discuss their concerns directly with the headteacher.”
