A MUSSELBURGH resident has been sentenced to a short jail term after she allowed the smell of drugs to emanate from her home.

Jessie Rennie, 42, was placed on an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) banning her from allowing the smell of drugs to waft from her flat when she appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on March 7.

Residents had complained of the foul smell of cannabis coming from her home at the town’s New Street, leading to her court appearance.

Court papers state Rennie then breached the conditions of the ASBO by allowing the smell of the Class B drug to emanate from her home on August 30.

She subsequently appeared back at the city court from custody last Monday, where she pleaded guilty to the offence and the case was deferred for 24 hours to allow Sheriff Douglas Keir to deal with the case.

Rennie appeared in front of Sheriff Keir last Tuesday, again from custody, where he sentenced her to a 20-day custodial term that was backdated to her arrest date of August 31.
