East Lothian’s MSP was on hand to open the new-look North Berwick skatepark following its £160,000 upgrade.
Paul McLennan cut the ribbon on what proved to be a successful day as hundreds gathered at the new facility at the town’s Recreation Park.
The project was led by NB Community Skatepark Project, a group of dedicated volunteers who sourced funding.
Ruth Hunter Pepper, of the group, said it was a “joyous day” and that she was so happy to see people of all generations turn out for the occasion.
The park was designed by Grangemouth-based Concreate Skateparks Ltd, bringing a modern facility to the town to replace the previous park which was described as “not fit for purpose”.
Funding came from North Berwick Trust, North Berwick Coastal Area Partnership, Sportscotland, SUEZ Community Trust, North Berwick Rotary Club, Stella Moffat Trust, Russell Bequest, Law Cycles, East Lothian Council’s Community Intervention Fund and Tesco.
Further funds were donated by St Andrew Blackadder Church congregation and the Law Race while a Steampunk café fundraiser paid for lights at the park and skating kit for children to borrow for free.
