A public meeting to discuss the fire at Dunbar Landfill Site, and present the findings of an investigation by owners Valencia Waste Management into its cause, will take place on Wednesday, September 27, at Dunbar Town House.
The fire burned for five days at the end of last month.
Residents in Dunbar and surrounding areas complained of a strong smell of burning plastic in the air and some said it gave them sore throats.
The meeting, which will serve as the launch of Valencia’s Dunbar Community Liaison Group, will run 7.30pm-9pm.
The meeting has a limited capacity, but members of the public will be able to attend on a first-come, first-served basis.
A spokesperson for Valencia said: “We will be opening the meeting to the public; there will be a limited number of spaces but we will be reaching out to those who had been in touch with Valencia with complaints first, as well as local politicians and councillors.
“The remaining spaces will be on a first come, first served basis.
“This will see the results of the investigation presented and offer an opportunity for discussion.”
East Lothian’s MSP, Paul McLennan, will be in attendance, with other local politicians also invited.
A spokesperson for East Lammermuir Community Council said: "East Lammermuir Community Council will be pushing for clear information about what happened, including any dangers to health an local environment; what will happen to prevent a repeat, and proper involvement of the local community (not just Dunbar) in the future running of the site."
