American broadcaster NBC Sports Chicago recently paid a visit to Musselburgh Links Old Golf Course as part of a tour of East Lothian’s Golf Coast for its Golf360° programme.

Presenter Dave Lockhart spent time at North Berwick and Gullane Golf Clubs, before arriving at Musselburgh Links to meet with golf starter Dave Hillis.

Musselburgh Links Old Golf Course is the world’s oldest playing golf course, having celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2022, and previously hosted the Open championship on six occasions between 1874 and 1889.

Mr Hillis said: “It was a pleasure to welcome NBC Sports to Musselburgh Links; their presenter was intrigued by the unique layout of the course within the confines of the local horseracing track and the challenges golfers can expect to face over our testing nine holes.

“He was particularly interested in the history of the course, as are many of our international visitors. It’s well known that golf was played on Musselburgh Links as early as March 2 1672, although Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played here in 1567.”

Musselburgh Links is a publicly owned course, run by enjoyleisure on behalf of East Lothian Council. Two golf clubs, Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club and Musselburgh Links Ladies Golf Club, are based at the course.

Visitors can play with traditional hickory golf clubs, allowing them to follow in the footsteps of some of Scotland’s golfing legends.
