A BUTCHER who has served Dunbar for almost three decades has told of his "sadness" at shutting up shop after the "hardest year".
Peter Whitecross, of Peter Whitecross Quality Butchers, made the decision to close last week.
A poster was placed in the High Street business’s window, urging people to continue to support both the High Street and his fellow butchers.
It reads: “Twenty-seven years a butcher in Dunbar, half my lifetime, but this last year has been the hardest yet.
“Due to ever increasing overheads and stock increases it is with much regret and sadness that we cannot continue.
“This has been a very difficult decision.
“My staff, Pauline, my partner and my rock, she has kept me sane over this past year.
“Kept me out of trouble, hiding the vodka every night.”
Mr Whitecross went on to thank his staff and his daughter.
He added: “Of course, myself, would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the love and support over the many years.
“Thank you, you are amazing.
“Please continue to support the High Street – it’s not easy.
"Please support my fellow butchers: J McKirdy's, East Linton; Andersons, North Berwick; Kevin Watt, Haddington; Stevie McMasters in Tranent.
"Please give them love and support if you can.
"I know how hard it can be."
