The new senior pupil leadership team at Musselburgh Grammar School are looking forward to the year ahead.

Jodie Hannan, head teacher, said she was “delighted and proud” to introduce the team: head pupils Eva Hills and Charlie Devine, and depute head pupils Eleanor Myles, Isaah Majid and James Blakeley.

She added: “They are an outstanding group of young people, defined by their hard work, enthusiasm and determination to do their personal best in school, as well as to make the Grammar the most enjoyable and best place to learn for the rest of their peers.

“We are all looking forward to working with them this year.”

Charlie said: “This year I’m studying maths, biology and chemistry all at Advanced Higher.

“Outside school I volunteer once a week at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a meaningful activities volunteer and, in the future, I’m looking to study medicine at university.

“My plans for this year are to introduce events such as a neurodiversity week into the school to improve acceptance and understanding of one another, and to keep developing the school ethos of positivity, as well as inter-house competitions to improve school spirit here at Musselburgh Grammar School.”

Eva explained: “This year I am studying Advanced Higher music, as well as Higher media, art and business. After school I would like to go to university to pursue a career in journalism, whilst expressing my passion for singing and songwriting by participating in gigs.

“My aims as head pupil are to make secondary school a memorable experience by creating more events such as school dances and band nights, which can be enjoyed by all year groups. Another aim is to make Musselburgh Grammar School a fun place to study to ensure that everyone has high motivation for their learning to achieve the best possible results.”

James said: “This year I am studying physics, maths and chemistry at Advanced Higher level, whilst also doing a foundation apprenticeship in scientific technologies. I am hoping to study aerospace engineering at university.

“My aim is to drive up pupil engagement in all the wonderful opportunities at Musselburgh Grammar.”

Isaah explained: “This year I am studying physics, maths and music at Advanced Higher, and philosophy at Higher. After high school I hope to study artificial intelligence at the University of Edinburgh.

“Through the course of the year I aim to help revamp the organisation and communication throughout the school, and I will also work hard on equalities.”

Eleanor said: “At the moment in school I am studying Advanced Higher biology, chemistry and maths as well as a foundation apprenticeship in scientific technologies. Outside of school I play rugby for East Lothian Girls, I work, and I enjoy going out with my friends. After school I’m not entirely sure what I want to do, so I’m just taking life as it comes at the moment.”
