Scottish Water has been given the go ahead to install an emergency shower and chemical kiosk at its Dunbar waste water treatment plant, just off the A199 at Beltonford, near West Barns.

In its design statement to East Lothian Council, Scottish Water says it is adding the new equipment at a number of its plants.

It said: “Scottish Water is undertaking a project to commission and install new chemical dosing apparatus at several existing waste water treatment works. This small dosing plant is designed for the storage and dosing of selected compatible chemicals necessary as part of the waste water treatment process. This plant, along with a nearby emergency shower, will facilitate the improvement of health and safety standards within Waste Water Treatment Work (WwTW) sites and ensure Scottish Water retains high health and safety standards, along with environmental protection levels, effectively.”

The dosing kiosk is described as a 3m by 3m box with a height of 2.4m. The nearby shower will be 1.5m by 1.5m and 4m high. Both will be placed on new hardstanding on the larger plant site.

Granting permission, planning officers said: “The proposals are small in size and scale in comparison with the existing site operations [and] well integrated into their setting and will have no impact on the landscape setting of the area.”
