A ROADSHOW to raise awareness of a charity’s emotional support services has stopped off in Dunbar.

Samaritans visited the town’s railway station to encourage members of the public to look after their own, and each other’s, mental wellbeing.

Among those stopping off at the event was East Lothian’s MSP Paul McLennan, who previously represented the town on East Lothian Council.

Also in attendance were representatives of local mental health group Eastspace, Andy’s Man Club, Carers of East Lothian and the town’s community council.

Mr McLennan said: “Delighted to meet the team from Samaritans Scotland at the recent roadshow in Dunbar.

“Samaritans, along with other key stakeholders, show the importance of talking about our mental health and suicide in general.

“I look forward to working with them and others in the future.”

Arlene Dickson, Samaritans’ Network Rail partnership regional development lead for Scotland, was hopeful those who attended were more confident in how to seek help.

She said: “We hope the event showed passers-by in Dunbar that it’s important to talk, and that it’s ok to both ask for and offer support.

“Asking someone if they’re suicidal won’t make things worse. In fact, evidence shows it could help them and give them permission to open up.”
