A PIECE of history lives on after the Nungate Gala was declared a great success.
Residents from the area in Haddington turned out on Saturday to enjoy the annual occasion, including the crowning of Nungate Gala Queen Emily Gullan.
Liz McDougall, chairwoman of the event, was pleased to say everything went well on the day.
She said: “It went extremely well.
“I was really, really pleased and the weather held out for us as well.
“There were a couple of showers but nothing we could not withstand.
“They just came and went and it dried up again and did not spoil anything.
“It was a really good day and I think everybody enjoyed themselves.”
The annual gala, which celebrated its silver anniversary last year, featured live music and stalls, as well as the crowning ceremony.
Many proud parents were on to watch the Gala Court appear from the marquee off Whittingehame Drive.
Liz was confident the gala would continue again next year and revealed there had already been interest in being part of the gala court.
She said: “We had a difficult year and it was quite difficult to get kids involved.
“But, this is the Nungate’s heritage and we need to keep this going for as long as we can.
“As long as keep this going the Nungate will be alive.”
Fundraising continues on Thursday evening with a bingo session while it is hoped photographs from the event will also be on sale.
