Radio presenter Davie Martin has been awarded honorary membership of Tranent Rotary Club for his services to the community.

The Radio Saltire co-founder’s work delivering mobility scooters to those in the county who need them, as well as other charity endeavours, was recognised by the award, presented to him by new Rotary club president Paula Edmond.

A spokesperson for the club said: “At our handover dinner, president Paula had the pleasure of presenting honorary membership of the club to Davie Martin for his outstanding service to our community.

“This is such a well-deserved award to someone who does so much to help others.

“Congratulations Davie from everyone at the Rotary Club of Tranent.”

Afterwards, Davie expressed his gratitude and delight at the recognition.

He said: “I was totally shocked but honoured by the surprise they sprung on me.

“Thank you [to the club] for such a compliment. I appreciate the confidence you have shown in me to be given such an honour.

“Lots of other commitments make it impossible for me to attend personally all the time, but rest assured that you have my full support in your objectives.

“As an avid supporter of all the Rotarians do in our community and beyond, I hope my modest contribution will continue to help.

“I would like to thank James Bruce for all he has done in the role as president over the last three years, and wish Paula Edmond nothing but success in her role as the very deserving president of The Rotary Club of Tranent.”
