Theatre, film and music lovers can catch up with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Musselburgh, thanks to a programme from the Brunton Theatre Trust.
Shows are being staged at different venues because parts of The Brunton building, in Ladywell Way, are currently closed.
More than 70 young performers join The Brunton’s professional team, in association with David Ross and Tommie Travers, for classic musical Bugsy Malone, from today (Thursday) to Sunday at Loretto School Theatre. Matinees and evening shows are on offer.
Brunton favourite, the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra, brings The Glenn Miller & Big Band Spectacular to Musselburgh Grammar School tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm. The concert features music from Glenn Miller and other band leaders, including Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, as well as songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
Northesk Parish Church is hosting classical and traditional music, including soloists of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, such as André Cebrian. All concerts are at 3pm, allowing audience members to enjoy lunch at The Bistro at The Brunton before or after the concert.
Clarinettist Maximiliano Martin is accompanied by Scott Mitchell on piano on August 15 at 3pm. His programme of nostalgic melodies includes work by Haydn, Bartók and Liszt.
BBC Radio 2 folk award winners Ímar perform at Northesk Parish Church on August 17 at 8pm. This Irish/Manx/Scottish quintet are decribed as among Glasgow’s “hottest folk property”.
Lunchtime theatre is back, this time at Stables Pavilion, Musselburgh Links. Fringe goers can relax with a soup and sandwich before taking part in Silence In Court, an interactive theatre experience, on August 16 and 17. Silence In Court draws on real-life procedures from different legal traditions to create a mock court in which the audience have the option to join the jury.
Cinema screenings continue at Loretto School Theatre, and Mamma Mia! is back on screen on August 15, with a themed evening that starts with a Greek supper at The Bistro at The Brunton. Bookers will then be given complimentary transport to Loretto School Theatre for the movie.
The popular Fleabag, from National Theatre Live, is on screen at Loretto School Theatre on August 16 at 7pm. The award-winning play that inspired the BBC’s hit TV series was filmed live on stage in London’s West End in 2019.
