The spectacle of the Musselburgh Festival Day rideout was enjoyed on Saturday.

This is the only occasion the Burgh Standard is carried on horseback - a role that was taken by the Honest Lad of 2023 Aidan McLaren.

The first stop of the day was to Pinkie House where Honest Lass Ellen Brown

delivered a scroll to Dr Graham Hawley, headmaster of Loretto School, in recognition of friendship throughout the years.

The procession and rideout headed along the High Street on to Eskside East to ford the River Esk before riding to Whitecraig via Inveresk. The ride then make its way cross country before stopping at Crookston Farm.

The riders returned to the Honest Toun via Wallyford and on to Levenhall before the gallop along the back of the racecourse.

A gallop along the beach at Fisherrow took place, followed by a short ceremony at the harbour.

The ride became a procession from North High Street, Bridge Street and High Street where the Honest Lad, in festival tradition, returned the flag "unsullied and unstained" to Councillor Andy Forrest, honorary provost.
