PRESTONPANS band The Rahs will be among musicians at an event for a charity set up in memory of a young footballer from Musselburgh.

JORDOFEST 2023 will be held at the Ravelston House Hotel, on North High Street, Musselburgh, on Sunday from 1pm until late, to support the work of the Jordan Houston Trust (JHT), which was set up in 2012 to help children with cancer.

Jordan Houston, who played for Musselburgh Windsor, died in 2011, aged 11, after a battle with a rare brain tumour known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, which had been diagnosed the previous year.

Jordan’s mum, Chloe, and stepdad, Chris Napier, of Delta Drive, set up the trust in Jordan’s memory.

The trust ran a similar event at the Ravelston last year, which Chloe said was a massive success.

Chloe told the Courier: “We did this last year and I couldn’t believe how many people showed up. I don’t know exactly how many were there, but we had more than I thought.

“We thought we would try and do it again this year and we are hoping it will be as successful.

“Last year we raised about £3,000 and if we can get anywhere near that I will be delighted.

“We haven’t sold tickets this year but will be having QR codes put around the area where people can scan and donate.”

A number of bands will be playing live on the day, including Prestonpans-based band The Rahs, and The Kennedy Project and Danny Scrimshaw, from Edinburgh.

The event will also include a raffle, home baking and an open mic until late.

Chloe said: “It’s great to have had all the support we’ve had in organising it and I am so grateful to all the musicians for getting involved, too.

“Everyone has come together on this in memory of Jordan and we just want it to be a fun day for all the family.”

Since its founding, the Jordan Houston Trust has raised more than £80,000, which has gone to help support families with children battling cancer.

Chloe said: “The amount we have raised is fantastic and I know Jordan would be proud.”

She added: “£80,000 is a lot of money but I know the difference between that and £100,000 is a lot. I’d love to reach that figure, and we will, we just need to keep working.”

JORDOFEST 2023 is free to attend but guests are encouraged to make donations to the trust using the QR codes located at the hotel.
