A host of riders took to part in the Crusaders' Chase yesterday evening (Monday) as part of the Musselburgh Festival.

The chase is one of the highlights of the festival and attracted large crowds who gathered to watch the riders take part.

Amongst the riders were this year’s Honest Lad and Lass Aidan McLaren and Ellen Brown.

The riders proceeded down Eskside, over the Rennie Bridge, up Dalrymple Loan to Inveresk Road, then on to Inveresk Village, to Carberry and Crookston Farm.

After the stop at the farm, the riders travelled back to Musselburgh via Wallyford, where Honest Lass Ellen was presented with a bouquet and Honest Lad Aidan given a buttonhole.

A fantastic gallop was on display upon the return to Musselburgh along the beach.

The flag-raising ceremony at the harbour, saw the Honest Lad and Lass raise the burgh flag before the procession headed onto North High Street, making its way to the Roman Bridge.

The chase was followed by a Crusader’s Chase dance at Eskmills Bowling Club.

A spokesperson for The Honest Toun’s Association said: “To all riders who participated in tonight’s chase alongside our supporters on foot, we hope you had a wonderful evening and thank you for your continued support.”
