TRIBUTES have been paid to “a much-loved” lollipop man.
John McLay, who manned a crossing near Pinkie St Peter’s Primary School in Musselburgh, was loved by parents, carers and children for going the extra mile.
Two years ago, a group of parents had praised him for the “amazing job” he did and described him as “one of a kind”.
An email, which broke the sad news that he had passed away, was sent out by the school this week.
It reads: “We are deeply saddened to inform you that John McLay, our school crossing patrol officer, has passed away.
“John was a much-loved and greatly valued member of our school community who cheerily greeted our children and families every morning and afternoon and he will be sadly missed.
“We will share this information with your child this afternoon and if you require any further support in talking to your child about loss and bereavement, we are here to help.
“We send our deepest condolences to John’s family at this difficult time.”
