One lucky youngster will get the chance to have a book written for them by a Musselburgh author.
Alex Brown is inviting people to take part in a social media competition after turning his literary talents to writing children’s books for his grandchildren which are now appearing as YouTube videos.
He has decided to give another child the chance to have a book written specially for them, with their name used in the title.
Alex, aged 59, who owns Ideal Flooring Solutions in Musselburgh, has completed six stories for his grandchildren Evie Rose Brown (9), Jude Brown (7) and Luna Brown (3), Kayen Jones (4) and Kody Jones (3).
They feature the adventures of Snoozlewhoosh, a toy owl, which will also appear in the winner's book.
The books are: Evie's Excellent Adventure with trolls, pixies, fairies and unicorns; Jude's Jurassic Journey with dinosaurs; Kayan's Kenyan Safari with wild animals; Luna's Moon Landing, a trip to the moon to meet moon creatures; Kody's Underwater Kingdom with friendly dolphins, whales, sharks and fish; and Evie's Christmas Adventure, festive stories.
Alex said: "All six YouTube videos will be available this year with Evie’s Christmas Adventure being the final one in November."
He added: "We hope to have a seventh video and book if we get interest in the competition, and this will be based on the winner's interests."
To enter the competition, youngsters can come up with the best title for their Snoozlewhoosh story which should include the child's name. Families can go to the Facebook page Alexander Brown and share any Snoozlewhoosh YouTube video Facebook post, with the title for the story in comments. Winners will be contacted via social media.
People can also post or hand in the entry at Ideal Flooring Solutions, 99 High Street, Musselburgh, with a contact number.
The 20 runners-up will get a copy of a book for Christmas.
The winner will be announced on July 30 on Davie Martin's Sunday Morning Breakfast Show on Radio Saltire.
The books written by Alex for his grandchildren will be in Waterstones book shop this Christmas.
He has also commissioned Snoozlewhoosh toy owls for his grandchildren and is now planning to develop his Snoozlewhoosh project into a full animation.
Mr Brown has already enjoyed the publication of his first novel, Hit Me – a dark comic thriller about an ex-boxer who is wrongly diagnosed with cancer and ends up in the fight of his life.
He has released another book, Niddrie Boys – which is part autobiography, part fiction – and a follow-up to Hit Me called Hit Me Harder is nearing completion.
Mr Brown is also looking forward to giving talks to pupils at his former school Castle Brae High School and also Drummond High School.
