A Musselburgh councillor has asked the leader of East Lothian Council to appeal to the Scottish Government to ban disposable vapes.
Shona McIntosh, the green councillor for Mussleburgh, put forward the motion which will be discussed at Tuesday's full council meeting.
Disposable vapes are single use products that come in variety of colours and flavours that make them appealing to large numbers of people.
They contain nicotine, creating negative affects on health and wellbeing while also being a cause for concern for the environment due to littering.
Ms McIntosh notes in the motion that the littering and poor disposal on these puts added pressure on the council's resources.
The motion states that "the increase in use of disposable vapes and the impact this has on health, wellbeing and the environment.
"Notes also the increase in pressure on council resources in having to deal with the littering and poor disposal of these items, but that legislative control over them lies with the Scottish Government.
"Therefore instructs the leader of the council to write to the Scottish Government expressing the council’s support for a ban on disposable vapes and urging them to take action on this at the earliest opportunity."
