A bid has been launched to convert a town-centre flat into a holiday let in North Berwick.

The first-floor property faces onto the town's Westgate with access coming from the adjacent Church Road.

The home was previously owned by applicant Mr Stewart Carter's parents as a residential property but he has now applied for a change of use with East Lothian Council planners.

Refurbishment inside the property has already begun, with the statement reading that the applicant is intending to create "high quality visitor accommodation" with an unchanged floor plan.

It would be managed by North Berwick Holiday Homes, who would assume all responsibility for bookings and management if the plans are to be approved.

The home has two bedrooms and one bathroom, allowing for a maximum occupancy of four people but has no designated spaces for vehicles.

Guests would be obligated to stay for a minimum period of five nights to reduce "frequency of movement" and help maintain residential amenity.

However, the property does have a shared access point that leads to a courtyard with two other homes (3a and 3b Church Road), something planners have used to reject previous short term let applications.

The statement clarifies that the property does, however, not have a shared stairwell and has its own entrance.

No external alterations would be made to the property either, meaning the "heritage designations would be unaffected."

A decision is set to be made by April 6.
