The swimming pool at the Loch Centre in Tranent is to remain closed until further notice after “issues” with the roof of the building were discovered during maintenance works.
enjoyleisure closed the centre at the end of last month for scheduled maintenance work, including changing the pool's filter media.
During this time, further checks were carried out and issues with the roof of the building were discovered.
East Lothian Council said these issues are in relation to insulation.
The swimming pool was due to reopen on Monday (January 30) but this has been delayed “until further notice”. The rest of the centre is expected to open on Monday (February 6).
An enjoyleisure spokesperson said: “During essential routine maintenance work at the Loch Centre in Tranent, issues related to the roof were discovered which require further investigation and in due course remedial works.
“As a result, the Loch Centre swimming pool will be closed until further notice while assessment and remedial work is completed.
“We are presently working to offer customers alternative venues for regular swimming and swim lessons. We will also be finding a temporary home for Tranent Swimming Club.
“We hope to reopen the pool as soon as practical and will issue a further update on this in due course.
“Enjoy Leisure apologises for any inconvenience and is committed to making sure that there is as little disruption as possible to our customers.
“We plan to offer customers alternatives to enable them to keep up their active lifestyles and will update on these as soon as possible.
“The remainder of the Loch Centre - gym, dance studios, hall and meeting rooms and soft play - are expected to open as normal on Monday February 6.”
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “As confirmed by enjoyleisure to customers earlier, issues related to the roof were discovered during essential routine maintenance work at the Loch Centre in Tranent.
"The issues are specifically regarding insulation and further investigations are required on the nature of this.
"The expectation is that remedial works will be required in due course.
"While the remainder of the centre will reopen as planned, the pool will unfortunately remain closed until further notice.
"We are working closely with enjoyleisure to resolve this matter.”
