CLAIMS that vehicles were repeatedly driven at excessive speeds in Prestonpans yesterday afternoon have resulted in arrests.
Police have confirmed that a 32-year-old man was apprehended on the town's High Street and charged with various road traffic offences.
It was alleged that he had earlier been driving a VW Golf and had failed to stop at about 4pm when instructed to do so by police on Mid Road.
A second man was then arrested after he allegedly failed to stop his car for police in Prestonpans at about 5.30pm the same day.
The 19-year-old was said to be driving a Vauxhall Astra and was later arrested and charged when the vehicle stopped in North Berwick.
Inspector Dougie Wardell, of Police Scotland, said: “At around 4pm on Sunday, January 22, 2023, a VW Golf failed to stop for police on Mid Road, Prestonpans.
"The car was found on Kirk Street and the 32-year-old male driver was apprehended on High Street.
"He was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences.
“Around 5.30pm, on the same day, a Vauxhall Astra also failed to stop for police in Prestonpans. The car stopped in North Berwick and a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with road traffic offences.
Both men were due in Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.
