TWO Haddington pupils have defeated hundreds of schoolchildren from across the south of Scotland to win prizes in a Christmas card competition.
Schools from throughout Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Lanarkshire, the Scottish Borders, Midlothian and East Lothian were challenged to design a Christmas card for MSP Craig Hoy.
Kyle Conning and Oskar Stefaniak, P7 pupils at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Haddington, each won runner-up prizes as part of the contest.
Both of the youngsters received a £50 Amazon gift voucher.
Mr Hoy presented the prizes in person, as well as certificates for all of those who participated in the contest.
He said: “It was really nice to present Kyle and Oskar with their well-earned prizes as part of my annual Christmas card contest, and to extend a big thanks to all pupils in East Lothian who took part this year.
“My Christmas card contest this year featured many talented designs from pupils across East Lothian and beyond.
“I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who participated, as well as local teachers for the work they have been doing to support our children and young people following on from the many challenges for schooling during the height of the Covid pandemic.”
The winner of the contest was Rachael Davidson, a P4 pupil from St Andrew’s RC Primary School in Gorebridge.
The competition was supported by ScottishPower, which provided the prizes, and EDF which sponsored the card production.
