LONGNIDDRY Ladies have enjoyed a tee-riffic season on the course. . . and a tree-riffic moment off it.
In September, the golf club’s scratch team won the summer league Dewar Trophy, defeating Gullane in their final match.
The trophy was donated to the East Lothian Ladies Golf Association in 2007 by Moira Thompson, and it is the first time that Longniddry has brought home the silverware.
While in October, Longniddry became the first golf club in East Lothian to participate in the planting of a commemorative tree for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
Following the wishes of the King, the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative has been extended to the end of March next year.
The scheme offers people the opportunity to plant trees to honour the Queen, which the club was delighted to do.
A number of members supported Roderick Urquhart, Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian; club captain Alastair Todd; and ladies’ captain Marion Buchanan to plant a pine tree beside the 18th green.
The tree is accompanied by a commemorative plaque created by John Hall, from Preston Lodge High School’s CDT department.
The planting also coincided with Longniddry Golf Club hosting the Sime Salver (Syme), a competition which brings together ladies’ teams from the majority of golf clubs in East Lothian.
The Lord Lieutenant was delighted to be part of both events, presenting the prizes to the winning teams as well as helping to plant the QGC tree.
