A TRANENT motorist has been remanded in custody pending sentencing after he was caught driving a vehicle while already disqualified.

Richard Kelly was spotted behind the wheel of a white BMW driving along an unclassified road between the A6094 and B6414 near to Smeaton Farm, near Whitecraig.

The 35-year-old was pulled over by police officers last month and found to be driving the car having been previously banned from the road.

Kelly then refused to give the officers a blood specimen to ascertain the level of alcohol in his blood after he had been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Kelly pleaded guilty to two offences committed on October 9 when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday.

The Crown accepted not guilty pleas to four further charges, including driving with no insurance, failing to give police details, refusing a roadside breath test and refusing a roadside drug test on the same date.

The court was told that Kelly, of Muirpark Place, was currently serving a community-based order following a separate appearance at the court earlier this year.

Sheriff Peter McCormack deferred sentence to later this month for reports to be prepared. He revoked Kelly’s bail and remanded him in custody.
