A MOTORBIKE was stolen from a Macmerry home in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
CCTV footage from a neighbour showed that the incident, which occurred at a parking space outside the owner's home on Appleby Drive in Macmerry, happened at about 12.30am this morning.
The black Yamaha Tracer 900 motorbike, manufactured in 2017, is worth around £5000 and belongs to Jack Sayers, 25, who moved to the area from Aberlady with his partner in July.
Mr Sayers said: “It’s very frustrating. We only recently moved to the area so to have this happen so soon after moving is sad to see.
“I hope the police get them. In many ways, I’d rather not get the bike back but see whoever stole it get convicted than just find the bike somewhere.
“It’s the last thing I needed at the moment with the economy and such the way it is right now."
Mr Sayers has previously had a bike stolen while living in Leith; the bike was later found by a resident.
The bike comes with a steering lock which would have to be broken in order to steer the bike away.
Mr Sayers had left the bike in a space outside his home and secured it with the steering lock.
His home has a camera outside but it did not capture the theft taking place.
He said: “We have a camera installed at our house but unfortunately, due to where the bike was positioned, I couldn’t see it being stolen.
“The neighbours have been great, I put a post-up on Facebook and by the time I had gone round to my neighbours to ask if they had seen anything many of them had already saw the post."
Mr Sayers has since got confirmation from one of the neighbour’s CCTV that the bike was stolen at around 12.30am.
Mr Sayers has reported the incident to police, who are still investigating.
A police spokesperson said: “Police in East Lothian have received a report of the theft of a black Yamaha Tracer 900 motorbike from the Appleby Drive area of Macmerry, which is believed to have taken place overnight between Monday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 11.
"Enquiries are at an early stage.”
