SOME of cycling’s biggest stars will pass through East Lothian on Monday as part of the Tour of Britain.

The event has headed through Gifford in recent years but this year’s race will instead pass to the south of the village.

The second stage of the prestigious race begins in Hawick on Monday morning.

Competitors will then head north-east through Jedburgh and Kelso before going on to the coast at Eyemouth and St Abbs.

The route then heads back in land before venturing north beyond Whiteadder Reservoir, then joining the Gifford to Duns road and finishing in the Borders town.

Among those racing in the event will be Australian Richie Porte, who finished third at the Tour de France in 2020, and Belgium’s Dylan Teuns, who won a stage at the Tour de France three years ago.

Previous winners of the race include Sir Bradley Wiggins, Julian Alaphilippe and Wout van Aert.
