THE success of Tranent Juniors has been toasted by South Scotland MSP Martin Whitfield.
The Belters not only won the top flight of the East of Scotland Football League last season but went on to defeat Darvel, champions of the West of Scotland Football League, and St Cuthbert Wanderers, winners of the South of Scotland Football League, to secure a place in the Scottish Lowland Football League.
Calum Elliot’s team have begun life in the fifth tier of Scottish football in impressive form, picking up 10 points from a possible 15.
Mr Whitfield visited the club’s home of Foresters Park to congratulate the side and also to look at their plans for the future.
The former East Lothian MP said: “Tranent Juniors’ outstanding success in securing promotion to the Scottish Lowland Football League for the first time in the club’s history has generated great excitement and enthusiasm among its supporters and across the town. There is a real buzz about the place following their promotion and the potential for building on what they have achieved so far.
“The players, officials and fans have done Tranent and the rest of East Lothian proud.
“I was pleased to mark the club’s significant achievement in a motion at Parliament and to follow that up with this visit to congratulate club officials in person and wish them continued success for the year ahead.”
