More than 400 visitors flocked to the garden open days at Inveresk, which raised more than £3,500 for charity.

The recent biennial event – held over two days under Scotland’s Gardens Scheme – was blessed with glorious sunshine.

The gardens at six houses, community allotments and Inveresk Lodge Garden, run by the National Trust for Scotland, welcomed visitors this year.

People had the chance to meander through the gardens, discuss ideas with owners and enjoy music entertainment from Elinor Evans playing her clàrsach outside Green House at Eskhill.

One attraction was the garden of Eskhill House, where owners Roy and Vivienne Bouch had planted 250 new lavender plants and restored an overgrown pond as a focal point of their garden.

Local organiser Ian Orr said: “After over two years of Covid-19 restrictions, the community was delighted to move about freely, meet new neighbours and welcome the appreciative visitors.”

Refreshments were provided by Mint Fig, S Luca and Beanstalk.

Funds raised will mainly support Live Music Now Scotland, which gives young artists the chance to perform at the start of their careers and enables high-quality live music to reach people throughout communities, especially those who wouldn’t normally have access to it.
