Xander Schauffele has been crowned the Genesis Scottish Open champion after a pulsating Sunday at The Renaissance Club.
The tournament arrived at Renaissance for the fourth time, but for the first time ever it was co-sanctioned with the PGA Tour with nine of the top 10 players in the world coming to Scotland's golf coast.
The world number 11 led the field after two great rounds on Friday and Saturday to find himself sitting on 7 under par, and two shots clear of the chasing pack.
He started off in flying form, making birdies on the first two holes but went through a tricky spell at the end of his front nine, making three consecutive bogeys.
Other challengers such as Cabrera Bello and Palmer would quickly fall out of contention with Spieth making double bogey on 14 to end his title ambitions as well.
Compatriot Kurt Kitayama would quickly become Schauffele's primary challenger, sitting on 5 under for the day by the time he reached 17th tee.
But Schauffele battled back well, making birdies on 14 and 16 to regain the solo lead.
Kitayama would then make bogey on 17, settling for a 66, and giving Schauffele a two shot buffer by the time he reached the 18th tee.
The American playing safe down the last, taking an iron off the tee and playing for bogey to claim the championship by one stroke.
Schauffele said: "It's special. It's different playing over here. You've got to play golf differently. The fans are incredible.
"They pushed me long all day and this is definitely a nice win for my team and myself.
"I was trying to find something.
"Every time I wanted to cut it I hit it way right and every time I wanted to draw it I hit it way left.
"At least it was going the correct direction, but it was going, you know, miles apart.
"And it was nice to sort of hit a few better shots coming down the stretch and kind of calm the ship here.
"It was looking pretty bad for a bit but this one is extra special because of that."
“It's great to win the first event that's co-sanctioned between the two tours. It was an incredible week.
"Genesis has always put on, well the tournaments I have played they have always put on incredible events and I knew this was going to be no different and what an honour to win in the Home of Golf.”
Kitayama will take solace in the fact his performance has earned him a place in next week's Open Championsip at St. Andrews courtesy of his top 10 finish, alongside Welshman Jamie Donaldson and South Korean Joohyung Kim.
