A MOTORIST who was caught behind the wheel of a vehicle while more than four-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit has failed to show up at court for sentencing.
David Sheridan was pulled over by police at Macbeth Moir Road in Musselburgh earlier this year and was found to have 102mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mg.
Sheridan was arrested and charged, and he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in March, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Sheriff John Cook handed out an interim driving ban and deferred sentence for reports to be prepared; Sheridan was due back in the dock on May 11.
The 56-year-old, of Macbeth Moir Road, then had a warrant issued for his arrest after failing to attend court on that date.
Sheridan was offered the chance to turn up to court under his own steam last Thursday but he failed to appear for a second time.
His solicitor Mary Moultrie told the court that she had “no reason for his absence”.
This time, Sheriff Cook issued a non-appearance warrant and Sheridan will now appear from custody when police catch up with him.
Sheridan pleaded guilty to driving a van with 102mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath at Macbeth Moir Road on February 12.
