Towns and villages across East Lothian are getting ready to mark the arrival of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with celebrations today (Thursday).
On February 6, the Queen became the first British monarch to reach 70 years on the throne.
Now, events are taking place across the county to celebrate the jubilee, with the lighting of beacons at communities along the coast amongst other festivities.
The day’s celebrations start in North Berwick, where from 1.45pm to 5pm a harbour fete will take place with stalls from businesses and community groups.
A proclamation will be read at 2pm by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Hilary Cochran, announcing the arrival of the celebrations.
In North Berwick, Musselburgh, Wallyford, Dunbar and Cockenzie and Port Seton beacons will be lit.
In Musselburgh and North Berwick, the beacons will be lit by Deputy Lord Lieutenants Iain Clark and Hilary Cochran.
Pipe band members will commence the ceremony at 9.35pm by playing Diu Regnare, followed by a solo bugler playing a song entitled Majesty at 9.40pm.
With the beacons alight, locally based choirs will sing A Song For The Commonwealth and in North Berwick a jubilee tart will be distributed made from four ingredients, one representing each country of the Union.
Wallyford Community Council has erected a jubilee beacon on the grass area at St Clements Gardens North which will be lit by Councillor John McMillan, Provost of East Lothian. The ceremony will get under way at 9pm with a performance by musicians from Penston Brass Band.
In Cockenzie and Port Seton, a beacon lighting, choir, service and speeches take place from 8.45pm this evening.
The first beacon will be lit at Port Seton Harbour before a parade led by Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band marches to Cockenzie Harbour for a second beacon lighting.
Entertainment will be held in Cockenzie Royal British Legion.
A similar ceremony will also take place in Dunbar at the Battery, commencing at 9.30pm.
The town will also host a picnic in the park tomorrow (Friday) between noon and 3pm to continue the festivities.
In Gifford, Yester, Bolton and Saltoun Church is hosting a garden fête with a jubilee theme on Saturday. The event takes place in the Manse Garden on Tweeddale Avenue between 2pm and 4.30pm.
Also on Saturday, Dirleton Good Neighbours are hosting an afternoon tea on the Green between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
On Sunday, a 1950s street party is held in Garvald at Garvald Village Hall from 1pm and includes food from the Garvald Inn.
In Longniddry, a Prosecco afternoon tea will be held at Longniddry Royal British Legion on Sunday, from 1pm to 5pm.
There will also be live music at Monksmuir Park, near Haddington and East Linton, on Sunday.
