WELCOME back to my local police round-up column.

As usual, it has been really busy for police in East Lothian as the longer days begin and over the last week (May 23-29) there have been 499 reported incidents.

He was cautioned and charged in the presence of his parents.

Phone scams and bogus workmen-type calls are an everyday occurrence at the moment and as such we have produced a little booklet which details the most ‘popular’ scams doing the rounds at the moment. These can be found at your local police station.

Last week, I was invited to the coffee morning at a local independent living establishment where we discussed issues relating to scam calls. As always, you can find crime prevention advice on our website, social media channels or by attending your local police station.

There has been work carried out with a number of locations in the county to prepare for a busy summer and Crime Prevention surveys have been done.

East Lothian Police will soon be relaunching the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) programme and I would encourage any 12-17-year-olds who would like more information and feel they could give something back to their communities to keep an eye on the East Lothian Police Facebook page.

On Sunday, police responded to a call involving youths who had climbed scaffolding at Preston Tower, Prestonpans, and were reported to be throwing items off. The youths made off prior to police arrival and there was no damage caused; however, this is a very dangerous thing to do and could have caused injury to people below, as well as those on the scaffolding.

Police were called to Gullane Beach on Sunday following a report of an unexploded ordnance found in the sand dunes. Arrangements were made for the MOD to attend and officers stood by until they arrived to make the device safe. A controlled explosion was carried out.
