The Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick has announced its largest ever marine festival, designed to help protect Scotland’s marine environment and tackle climate change.
Marine Fest will take place between June 4 and 12, and will bring together a series of events, exhibitions, science shows, trails and even a sustainable fashion show.
The festival will be a “bigger and better” version of last year’s inaugural edition, which took place as part of the Year of Coasts and Waters in 2021, which celebrated Scotland’s lochs, rivers and coastlines.
Susan Davies, Scottish Seabird Centre CEO, was delighted at the announcement and hoped that the events would spark the imaginations of people when it came to conservation and sustainability.
She said: “Marine Fest is a fantastic legacy of Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters.
“We’re absolutely delighted that we can now host a bigger programme of events in 2022.
“As restrictions ease, we have ensured this year’s programme is packed full of events and exhibitions to help us tell the stories of Scotland’s amazing marine environment.
“Behind all that we do is a very serious message about the need to act now to address the impacts of climate change and loss of nature.
“We aim to spark ideas about what people can individually do to help nature.”
The festival will see events aimed at all ages, with some taking place indoors at the centre and others encouraging locals to go out and explore the East Lothian coast, including the new snorkel trail that will give people the chance to get up close with marine wildlife.
Jackie Shuttleworth, events co-ordinator for the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “It has been fantastic to support the team in creating this amazing Marine Fest programme.
“We have put together a packed programme of truly thought-provoking exhibitions, events, talks, walks and workshops, including live science shows, rockpool rambles, bird identification walks, beach cleans and bio blitzes, puppet shows, storytelling walks, felting, sketching and music.
“There really is something for everyone.
“We can’t wait to welcome visitors to our five-star visitor attraction to experience the highly acclaimed fascinating, fun and interactive sessions that our team thrives on delivering.”
