AN OBJECTION by the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland has not been enough to stop an award-winning nursery’s plans being given the go-ahead.
The Pear Tree Nursery, on Haddington’s West Road, was given approval for advertisements at the front of the Category B listed building.
The business was also given the green light to create a toilet which could be accessed at the rear of the building.
The Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland claimed the height and positioning of the signage meant it “visually intrudes on the main façade of the listed building and the wider conservation area”.
The group also felt the works had “no architectural merit and are not in keeping with the listed building”.
However, East Lothian Council’s planning department granted permission with the condition that the advertising consent expires in March 2027.
